blog feedback and learner response

Create a new blogpost called 'Blog feedback and learner response' and copy and paste ALL your feedback below - WWW/EBI/LR. Read your feedback carefully and discuss any issues with me if something doesn't make sense. Then, complete the learner response tasks in the blogpost below your feedback. WWW: This is a mixed picture – your reception theory work on the RBK advert is very good but you’re also missing quite a bit. Your blog is pretty disorganised and out of sync – plus you’re missing some work. If you can add organisation and workload to the flashes of insight you offer in places then you could make a success of Media. EBI: There are several issues to address here. Firstly, you are missing key aspects of the work: the ‘reading an image’ is missing – is it in drafts? You must have done it because you’ve completed the reception theory work that followed afterwards. 1) The icon/index/symbol task feels very rushed – there is nowhere near enough detail here for A

Migrain: reading an image

MIGRAIN: Reading an image 1) Analyse this RBK 50 Cent advert using the key media language you learned today: denotation, connotation, colour, pose, framing, composition, size, type of shot, subject matter, setting, lighting. The product being advertised is a pair of Reebok trainers, which appears to be aimed at young adults(17-25). The popular rapper 50 cent is used to promote the product as he is  well known and people trust him and his opinions. A close up has been used so we can see 50 cents facial expressions clearly. The darkness of the poster creates tension. The finger prints in the background connote law-breaking. We are given the impression that 50 cents fingerprints have been taken by police as forensic evidence. The darkness and finger prints connote violence and danger. 50 Cent may be associated with crime as well due to his past. This could be a negative thing for Reebok as they don't want to loose more customers than they are gaining. His clothing is quite typic

Complete the following questions using the  Media Factsheet resource  available on the Media Shared drive.  You'll find them in our Media Factsheet archive: M:\Resources\A Level\Media Factsheets Read  Media Factsheet 14 - Telling Stories: The Media's Use of Narrative  and answer the following questions: 1) Give an example from film or television that uses Todorov's narrative structure of equilibrium, disequilibrium and new equilibrium.  An example from film that uses Todorov's narrative structure of equilibrium, disequilibrium and new equilibrium is 'Cradle 2 the Grave(2003)'. This film follows Todorov's narrative theory. It begins in a somewhat existing state of harmony as a group of bank robbers plot a bank robbery to steal jewellery from rich drug dealers. As the film develops the equilibrium is disrupted by a group of villains that hold the hero's daughter at ransom until his givers them the black stones. In the end the conflict is resolve

Textual analysis: homework

To achieve a top grade in A Level Media Studies, it is absolutely essential you consume a wide variety of different media on a regular basis. This may mean stepping outside your comfort zone or engaging with media that is no longer so popular with younger generations such as newspapers or radio. The good news is that you may discover something you really enjoy or at the very least helps you with your other A Level subjects. Create a blogpost on your Media 1 Exam Blog called 'My media consumption'. Answer the following questions in as much detail as possible to complete your audit: Newspapers Which daily newspapers (if any) do you read? none What sections of newspapers do you turn to first, and why? sports because I like to keep up with players who are scoring within league football What sections do you never read, and why? politics section because they are corrupt from my point of view What kinds of stories do you usually read and why? Do you, or someone else, bu

Semiotics: Icon, index, symbol

Image
1) Find three examples for each: icon, index and symbol. Provide images or links. Icon: Index: Symbol: 2) Why are icons and indexes so important in media texts?  Icons and idexes help people to understand things such as signs, adverts and posters. They are also universal which means that the majority of the total population will be able to understand them 3) Why might global brands try and avoid symbols in their advertising and marketing? Symbols are only known to people if they have been taught it through culture or religion. For example some people will only know how to speak a second language like spanish for instance if they've been taught it. It's the same with the number grid. If they aren't taught how to read the numbers within their country, religion or culture, they won't understand it. 4) Find an example of a media text (e.g. advert) where the producer has accidentally communicated the wrong meaning using icons, indexes or symbols. Why did the media

Reception theory

The dominant reading of this media text is that Reebok is a using a well known hip hop artist to promote their brand image. This could be linked to Reebok trying to say that their products are up to date with the latest trends and fashions. Reebok is also trying to enforce that no matter your circumstance or previous criminal history, Reebok will always have a space for you. The oppositional reading is that Reebok accepts criminal behaviour within society. If customers began to feel this way about their products, this could cause less repeat purchase from regular customers because they may not want to associate themselves with the message Reebok is spending.  The dominant reading of this text is that Heinz is using a famous fairy tail story of jack and the bean stalk to promote there product. This analogy could be used to show children if they eat their beans (which is one of their 5 -a-day) they grow up to be big and strong. Also, showing how the plant development is slowly b
